Orkney Islands Property Developments Ltd. was established in 1991 with the objective of providing housing management services to ensure that housing needs throughout Orkney are addressed. The company has successfully obtained grant funding from Scottish Homes (now Communities Scotland) to enable the construction of 12 rented accommodation units in Kirkwall, where demand for such accommodation far exceeds supply. The company also manages several properties on behalf of Orkney Islands Council . In addition to the development of much needed rented accomodation OIPDL has built 24 Very Sheltered Houses plus a core unit in Kirkwall and a similar scheme in Westray, all as part of the local Community Care Plan.

			Build a house with the aid of a Rural Home Ownership Grant
In March 2004 the company renovated 2 houses at Gunns Close in Kirkwall, which now
provide three supported flats for those recovering from alcohol or drugs problems. Orkney Islands Property Developments Ltd. acts as the Orkney agent for the Scottish Executive Rural Home Ownership Grants. These grants help to provide homes for those who would otherwise not be able to afford them and can be granted for both new builds and refurbishments.

		Since 1991 the OIPDL has expanded its operations and is now responsible for Orkney Care & Repair which provides advice and assistance to elderly, disabled and low income home owners throughout the islands.
