Rental Properties

Orkney Islands Property Developments Ltd. provides 12 rented accommodation units in Kirkwall and manages some properties for Orkney Islands Council. Anyone wishing to apply to OIPDL for rental accommodation should complete the Housing Application Form which can be obtained from the company's office in Victoria Street, Kirkwall.

After completion of the form you will be placed on the OIPDL housing waiting list, your position being determined by the date of application. Please note that admission to the waiting list is no guarantee of an offer of accommodation.

Who can apply?

Anyone aged 16 or over can apply for rented accommodation. Currently the company allocates accommodation on a date order basis, however priority may be given to those with particular needs e.g. medical. An arrangement exists whereby Orkney islands Council can nominate tenants for 75% of the company's properties.

What happens after I apply?

You will be sent an acknowledgement card advising you that your application form has been processed and confirming your date of application. Keep this card safe as it is your record of application.

Your application will then be placed on the waiting list in strict accordance with your application date.

When will I receive an offer?

You will receive an offer when your application reaches the top of the waiting list by date. You will then be contacted by telephone or by mail. A time will then arranged for you to view the property.

What if my circumstances change?

You must immediately advise OIPDL of any changes so that your records can be kept up to date e.g. changes of address.

How long will I stay on the housing list?

OIPDL will contact all applicants periodically to confirm that they still want to be considered for housing.
